FT 857D Manpack - revisited, ep.1

So...
A few years ago, I made a manpack based on a FT857D. This days, a friend of mine, YO3IPC, amazed by the versatility of the IC-703 I use, ask me if I can help him with some ideeas for a FT857D manpack.
Therefore, I draw some plans for a "powerfull" 25W manpack.

The plan was to use a 12V, 12Ah SLA and a Harris foldable antenna, a 9:1 BALUN and a Z11 PRO ATU. All around a FT857D from Yaesu,  so a (very) solid frame will be needed.
We choose a 1/2 inch plumbing pipe (copper) and some aluminium 2mm thick tape.

Today we made the frame.We'll do the rest tomorrow!

HELLO WORLD with PIC24 and TFT

I just received a few days ago my Easypic Fusion 7 board with a PIC24 microcontroller. It's just beautiful!
Well, it's a giant step from PIC16F but my friend and mentor said that it's just no reason to continue to learn about microcontrollers on an old one. So, I follow his words and jumped to 24 and DSPic... First, PIC24.
This is my first piece of program written in C, reading the value from the ADC, translated from binary to decimal and then sent it to the TFT display.
Here I found the knowledge.

We "redesign" YO3KSR as a place where hi-tech projects can be worked out.
We already have a few projects. More to come in near future!


We already put some toys there and we have RFID controlled access.

Protectia la descarcari - ROSENBERGER 60HK20A-K01

In urma unor articole si discutii pe marginea metodelor de protectie la descarcarile electrice mai mult sau mai putin violente a rezultat in mod evident necesitatea instalarii pe traseele de RF a unor elemente specifice, asa numitele "arestoare".
Exista o oferta destul de variata pe piata de astfel de elemente de protectie, produse sub nume de firme celebre sau mai putin cunoscute.
In lumea radioamatorilor, Polyphaser este un reper in ceea ce priveste calitatea. Se spune despre restul ca nu ar exista.
Intrucat aceste elemente de protectie se intercaleaza pe traseul de RF, cred ca este bine sa stim cate ceva despre ele.
In primul rand, exista doua modalitati majore de a proteja de descarcari traseul de RF:
-Prin punere la masa cu linii mai mult sau mai putin acordate
-Prin utilizarea unor circuite de descarcare in gaz inert sau vid.
Nu includ in categoria circuitelor de protectie "serioase" asa numitele 'eclatoare' care, in esenta sunt niste dispozitive asemanatoare bujiilor si care asigura descarcarea intre doua varfuri aflate la o distanta de 1-2 mm. Acestea produc o descarcare electrica cu armonici multiple si, in conjunctie cu echipamentele moderne fac mai mult rau decat bine.


Am pe masa un arestor ROSENBERGER 60HK20A-K01 provenit din industria telecomunicatiilor profesionale si care pare a face descarcarea pe o linie acordata.
Este un dispozitiv masiv, in greutate de aproximativ 1 kg, cu conectica coaxiala pe dimensiunea 7/16 inch.

Se observa rigurozitatea regulii de descarcare INAINTE de placa SPG, flansa de montaj fiind "anterioara" iesirii catre echipamentul din shack.


Masurand rezistenta intre masa si oricare dintre pinii centrali obtinem ZERO OHM, ceea ce inseamna ca in interiorul partii cilindrice se gaseste un circuit pus la masa permanent.

Care va fi insa efectul la intercalarea in circuitul de RF al transceiverului?

Am efectuat cateva masuratori cu ajutorul analizorului de spectru cu tracking generator si va las sa studiati rezultatul.

10 MHz - 1 GHz


100 MHz - 200 Mhz


400 MHz - 500 MHz


800 MHz - 1000 MHz


Privind ultima imagine, observam ca circuitul prezinta o rezonanta la frecventa de 943 MHz, cu atenuare minima la frecventele adiacente, ceea ce denota orientarea catre protejarea echipamentelor GSM.
Cu toate acestea, in jurul frecventei de 440 MHz atenuarea este de sub 1 db, ceea ce il face potrivit pentru protectia echipamentelor UHF.

In VHF, dupa cum se poate observa, este dezastru!

Pentru teste am folosit patch corduri Rosenberger; analizorul Marconi IFR 2945A.

First QSO YO3-OE via MARC-DMR

Today is a great day for Romanian Hams!
The Bucharest DMR repeater was connected to MARC-DMR network and i could make the first QSO.
The very first station heard in DMR was Kurt, OE1KBC.

Soon after, I have QSO with AA9VI, NE1B, ZS6ARG, HB9IBG and so...
